THE PATRIOT On-Line edition From The Commander Pat M. Volonino
First of all, let me take this opportunity to thank everyone in Post 15 for letting me attend the Nat'l Convention in Louisville, KY. It was my 1st Nat'l Convention for the American Legion and It is the largest convention of a patriotic organization in the US. In true military fashion, it went like clockwork. Legionaires were scatted our in hotels in KY and In. At the convention it was constantly stressed that we are "The American Legion Family". Legionnairies, Auxiliary, Sons, and Riders. As those of you who attended the POW?MIA ceremony at Cataco Park on Sept 17th, we preformed setting the "empty table" in memory of our lost or missing comrades. After seeing the ceremony performed in Louisville, it was impressive and I wanted to try to do similar in Decatur. The Brewer JROTc cadets, under the diredction of LTC Randy Pestona, were able to present the individual items as I described them and what the items symbolized tothe attendees. LTC Walker and the cadets from Austin High posted the colors and showed the training they received. Thanks to our Honor Guard and all the cadets for an outstanding ceremony. We Continue to have good attendance at our Post functions. Begining in October, the breakfast will be held the 3rd Saturday of each month at 8:00am. The SAL's will have their meeting after the breakfast. Please come out and utilize our Post building. We have placed all large items in a storage room. The back part of the building, "The Patriot Room" is now set up for conferences, meetings, card/canasta games and Wii monitors. The room is available for rent to small groups, for receptions, seminars, etc., Our financeial statement and bingo reports are posted on the board at the Post and we will be posting a monthly calendar as a reminder of current events. Remember to be prepared to take an active parat in our Veterans Day Parade and program. Since this issue of the Patriot covers Oct, through Dec., Marilyn and I would like to wish all of The Legion Family, a Happy Thanksgiving, a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. For God and Country Helping Veterans and Having Fun Pat M. Volonino
